As hard as it is to be an adult going through the experience of divorce, we should never forget that it is likely to be far more difficult for children of parents who are seeking a divorce. Children, after all, count on their parents to help shape their understanding of the world around them. When the stability of their lives is disrupted, sometimes even shattered, by their parents’ seeking a divorce, untold numbers of traumas may be experienced by that child. The enormity of divorce for adults is inclined to prevent at least some attention from being paid to the child, which in turn can lead to the stress of a disrupted life altering the child’s personality and perhaps even causing psychological damage.

Family Mediation Provides Support To Every Member Of Your Family

Children are no doubt resilient too. But divorcing parents must recognize that their choices have an impact on their children, whose ability to accurately perceive adult realities are not mature enough to understand them accurately without intervention, clarity, or support being provided to them. Even for the most sensitive, empathic, and attentive parent going through a divorce, there is often not enough time or energy to provide the child with the sensitivity, empathy, and attention the child needs.

Family Support Services

Fortunately, there are services available to assist divorcing parents with such things. AMS Mediation offers all a wide variety of support to families who are in the midst of divorce. AMS Mediation has a large menu of services designed to minimize the negative consequences of parents’ decision to finalize the end of their marriage. A few of the many services are included below:

  • Parent Time Expediting – which can help determine the best possible solution to visitation for the divorcing parents.
  • Parenting Consultation – which is expert advice on how to approach specific situations, especially regarding the remaining conflict that may exist between the divorcing parents.
  • Parent Coaching – for the ongoing challenges of working with one’s ex-spouse and ensuring that each parent is doing what is in the best interest of the children affected by the divorce.
  • Parent Mediation – for specific attention to resolving conflict between the parents during and after the divorce process.
  • Parenting After Divorce – There is a link on the Amber Serwat Mediation website to an excellent article on how to effectively parent in the days, weeks, months, and years after divorce.

AMS Mediation understands that divorce ends a marriage, but that it does not end the relationships between the members of the family. If you would like to provide support to your family by partnering with AMS Mediation, call 1.952.252.1492 for more information.
