Divorce Mediators MNAMS Mediation provides strong, effective and compassionate divorce support for Minnesota residents.  Many people understandably wonder about whether following the more traditional path through the court system is better than following the mediation path.  For some people, it may be necessary to conduct their divorce proceedings through the court system.  But now even courts are increasingly referring divorce cases to mediation.  Given that the mediation path—and certainly that which is provided by AMS Mediation—is less expensive, takes less time and prioritizes the health and welfare of all people affected by the divorce, it is becoming increasingly accepted and more likely to be considered the best option for couples. Divorce mediation can do a lot to lessen the negative adversarial impact on the couple; but more important is that mediation is far more likely to lessen the negative impact of the divorce on children.

Divorce Mediation Cost

For the vast majority of couples who seek divorce with the help of mediators, the financial cost will be significantly less than for couples who seek divorce by retaining attorneys.  AMS Mediation makes its fees known from the beginning, allowing couples to make informed decisions and reducing the likelihood of later surprise costs.  By comparison, however, couples who approach their divorces with the use of attorneys are likely to see the financial costs associated with their divorces creep upward.  Even if the attorneys who have been retained by the divorcing couple are trying to keep costs down, an adversarial approach to divorce is much more likely to incur hidden costs.

And then there are the other costs associated with divorce, namely the emotional and psychological costs.  AMS Mediation’s philosophy seeks to find the best possible solution for all family members affected by the divorce.  Rather than approaching the divorce by representing only one side of the issues, AMS Mediation tries to help the divorcing couple understand the impact of their divorce not only on their children, but on each other.  In a long-term sense, empathizing with each other does a world of good for all involved and makes life after divorce much healthier.

Divorce Mediation Length

Though every divorce situation is unique, AMS Mediation has found that most mediation settlements are reached in six to eight weeks, much less than proceeding through the court system.  During that time, there will likely be two to three mediation sessions, which last two to three hours.  Once the mediation process has been concluded, the agreement is then filed.  Processing of the paperwork typically takes one to eight weeks to be finalized.  These times are estimates based on the data collected by AMS Mediation—if your case is not typical, the length of time to finalize the divorce may vary.
