Alimony is the amount of money one spouse is either obligated or has agreed to pay their former spouse after the completion of a divorce settlement. This can be determined either by a judge when the couple takes part in a court proceeding to finalize a divorce, or it can be something agreed upon with the assistance of a divorce mediator. At AMS Mediation, we offer divorcing couples the chance to have more control over the results of your divorce than the courts can. Additionally, when you work with us, you will pay less than if you use lawyers to settle your divorce in court, and we will help you and your spouse get through the process with less stress and greater potential for reaching agreements that you can live with. Never is that more true than when determining alimony.

Determining Spousal Support

AMS Mediation is located in Burnsville, MN, but we also serve towns and cities such as Edina, Richfield, and many other communities in Minnesota. Our team empowers you to feel confident that your divorce will be settled less expensively and with greater potential for resolving issues over the long term. Alimony tends to be one of the more difficult issues for couples to resolve, but when you work with us, you’ll know that we are working for your best interests and the best interest of your children. Common factors considered in determining the need for alimony and the amount include:

● Financial condition of both parties;
● Age, physical and emotional state;
● Standard of living the couple experienced during the marriage;
● Length of marriage and how long it might take for one spouse to become self sufficient.

Experienced Divorce Mediator

Determining alimony during the mediation process allows you to negotiate the best possible result for your spouse, and we will lend our expertise in mediating difficult conversations to make the process go smoothly. Our desire is to ensure that you and your divorcing spouse are able to recover from the divorce, not only emotionally and psychologically, but also financially. When one of you is owed alimony, you will want to make sure that you are as well informed as possible. And to be well informed requires the presence of an expert who reassures you of their impartiality and desire to find the best possible outcomes for all people involved.

For you and your spouse to see your financial situations with utmost clarity requires the presence of a neutral third-party. Divorce mediators must be neutral in their work with divorcing couples, and our team at AMS Mediation have built our practice on effective, positive neutrality. And, when your alimony payments have been resolved, we can ensure that you complete and submit all paperwork necessary to comply with Minnesota law. Contact our team at 952-252-1492 to get started.
