Divorce Help in MinnesotaIf you’re a Minnesota resident searching for divorce mediation services, you’ve come to the right place. AMS Mediation offers professional, friendly, and affordable support to help you and your former partner resolve your divorce with dignity and clarity. Below you’ll find an overview of their services, how mediation works in Minnesota, and why mediation might be the best choice for you.

Divorce mediation provides an alternative to adversarial court battles. Mediators serve as neutral guides who help couples discuss and resolve issues like property division, child custody, child support, and spousal maintenance without a judge deciding for you. Minnesota courts strongly encourage, or sometimes require, couples to try mediation before moving forward with litigation.

Mediation typically costs 20 – 50% less than traditional divorce litigation and often concludes in just a few sessions. In most cases, the process can be completed in 6 to 8 weeks, with final court processing adding another 1 to 8 weeks. Compared to a court case that may stretch six months to two years, mediation is a faster and more private solution.

AMS Mediation, led by Amber Serwat, specializes in amicable or uncontested divorce mediation in Minnesota. Their process is client centered, respectful, and focused on empowering participants to reach fair and workable solutions while conserving financial resources and strengthening future co parenting relationships.
AMS Mediation provides services tailored to both self represented individuals and those working with attorneys. Their offerings include:

• Divorce Mediation for property division, support, parenting time, custody, and spousal maintenance
• Custody Mediation for unmarried or separating parents
• Post Decree Mediation for modifications of support or parenting time
• Coaching and parenting education to support co parenting partnerships

How the Mediation Process Works in Minnesota

Mediation is a structured, interactive process led by a neutral mediator. Participants remain in control of the outcome with the mediator facilitating dialogue without prescribing solutions. Most Minnesota couples complete the mediation steps in 6 to 8 weeks; sessions usually last around two hours each and are spaced one to two weeks apart.

Once agreements are reached, the mediator helps finalize a settlement in writing. Documents are submitted to the court and processed, typically within 1 to 8 weeks, after which the divorce is legally finalized.

Key Benefits of Divorce Mediation

You might not realize you have more options than litigation. Mediation offers significant advantages:

• Fosters respectful communication and preserved relationships
• Lower costs and faster conclusion than court proceedings
• Confidential sessions with only the final agreement becoming public
• Greater control over outcomes rather than leaving decisions to a judge
• Stronger compliance rates because participants help craft the agreement
• An opportunity to design creative, family focused solutions beyond legal norms

AMS Mediation offers a streamlined and predictable pricing structure. For self represented divorce couples the total fee typically ranges from $2,500 to $3,000 (approximately $1,250 $1,500 per party). This covers the mediator’s fees, plus a county filing fee of around $400.

Compare that with the typical retainers paid to divorce attorneys, often $3,000 to $5,000 per person, and the total costs of traditional litigation can surpass $15,000 to $20,000 per case.

Is Divorce Mediation Right for You?

If both spouses are willing to work collaboratively and seek a less adversarial path, mediation could be the ideal fit. It works best when parties can communicate and are open to mutual negotiation. Courts also expect couples to attempt mediation before heading to trial.

AMS Mediation excels in cases where both parties can engage respectfully, want to control their future terms, and prefer an efficient, affordable process. Their services support both parties whether or not attorneys are involved.

If you’re ready to explore divorce mediation with a professional who understands Minnesota law and values respectful resolution, reach out to AMS Mediation.
