The idea of going to court to settle your divorce may be stressful and even intimidating. Communicating about the very personal and private details of your marriage in an open court is daunting enough, but a court battle is often highly contentious very much based on a win/lose premise. Couples who decide to settle their divorce in court spend thousands of dollars and countless hours trying to finalize the separation of their lives, and it can be very difficult. Divorce mediation can allow you and your spouse to decide on all aspects of your divorce without a traditional court battle. Mediation empowers you and your divorcing spouse to make decisions about your divorce that are best for you and your family. The team at AMS Mediation can help facilitate the divorce mediation process for you and your family. We focus on providing divorce and parenting services that are efficient, effective, respectful, informative, and non-judgmental with a specific focus on developing Parenting Plans (also known as custody arrangements) that keep children as the priority and conserving financial resources.

Settle Your Divorce Quickly With Less Stress

There are many benefits of electing to pursue divorce mediation to solve the most important issues related to your divorce.

Less Expensive: Mediation usually costs anywhere from 20-50% less than proceeding through the traditional court system. You can expect to pay approximately $2000 if you partner with the AMS Mediation team and then another $1200-$1500 if you decide to hire a professional for legal drafting.

Less Adversarial: A mediator serves as a neutral third party to help facilitate positive and productive discussions about issues such as parenting time, division of assets and even spousal/child custody. Mediation is based on the assumption that the two parties can work together to find solutions, so it is by nature less adversarial than a court battle which emphasizes a win/lose mentality.

Takes Less Time: Mediation sessions typically are scheduled for 2-3 hours about every 2-3 weeks. Many divorces can be settled in 3-4 sessions, meaning that you can expect for the terms of your divorce to be settled in 2-3 months. When you go through the court system, you are looking at a much longer timeframe.

Entirely Confidential: Mediation is 100% confidential, in fact, just as protected as settlement negotiations between a lawyer and a client. MN Rule 114 protects all mediation discussion and communication from being used in court.

More Flexible: Meditation allows you and your divorcing spouse to be creative about solutions for your divorce that actually are uniquely suited for your situation, rather than relying on attorneys and judges to be able to make these difficult decisions on your behalf.
