Alimony Divorce SpecialistThe determination of alimony (also known as spousal support or spousal maintenance) can be one of the most complex and potentially contentious aspects of a divorce settlement. Mediation is a great way to settle not only complex and sensitive issues in a divorce, but all aspects of divorce. The courts in Minnesota often refer divorcing couples to use mediation to help with their divorce process. Amber Serwat of AMS Mediation is one of these Mediators.

Every case is unique, but the courts in Minnesota try to determine alimony based on some of the of the following factors:

  • Each spouse’s potential for earning income
  • Length of the marriage
  • The ability of one party to pay the other
  • Education
  • Age
  • Standard of living during the marriage that both parties are used to
  • Physical and emotional health

Using Divorce Mediation to Settle Alimony Disputes

AMS Mediation specializes in divorce mediation for couples all over the state of Minnesota. Our team can help you with all aspects of a divorce settlement including fair and equitable determination of spousal support, or alimony.  Rather than leaving this major decision entirely in the hands of the court, mediation allows you and your soon to be ex-spouse to try to arrive at a solution that works for you both. Afterall, the two of you know your situation best so it follows that you will have a good chance of success if offered a positive and productive environment to discuss. Mediation allows you to be flexible and come up with a solution that might not be obvious to the courts.

Experienced Divorce Mediator, MN

Amber Serwat, the founder of AMS Mediation, brings extensive personal and professional experience to the mediation table. She uses a client-centered approach to empower individuals to find fair, affordable, and workable solutions that actually work for all involved. In addition, she has been through a contentious divorce herself and uses this personal experience to help others avoid the mistakes that she made in her own divorce. Alimony discussions do not have to be contentious. Reasonable solutions and compromise can be reached if you and your divorcing spouse can find common ground. As a mediator, Amber will not make these decisions for you, but will facilitate a positive and productive discussion that can yield results that are in the best interest of both parties.
