Divorce Mediation Trend in MinnesotaWhile most of us assume that divorces are generally settled by a judge in the courts, this trend is quickly changing. The Minnesota court system actually now requires all couples to use an Alternative Dispute Resolution technique like mediation to settle the terms of a divorce BEFORE you appear in court. Mediation is widely regarded as a highly effective way to resolve issues such as division of property, development of a parenting plan (or custody agreement) and determination of whether child or spousal support is necessary in your case.

Benefits of Divorce Mediation

AMS Mediation offers comprehensive divorce mediation services for couples in Minnesota. We can help you navigate your divorce with less stress and financial pressure than litigation. There are many important benefits to mediation that makes the divorce process smooth and successful. These benefits include:

Significantly less expensive
Takes less time
Reduces overall conflict rather than increasing it
Models positive behavior for your children
Sets a strong foundation for successful co-parenting after divorce
Confidential process
Allows you and your family to focus on your future rather than the pain of the past

Mediation also allows you to have control over the divorce process, rather than leaving these big decisions in the hands of a judge. After all, you know your situation best and you have the best chance of coming up with a resolution that will be workable long term. Amber Serwat is a trained and experienced mediator with specific knowledge of Minnesota divorce law. Amber is a family mediator, divorce coach, parenting consultant, parent time expeditor, and custody evaluator. Amber also has personal experience with divorce, as she is also a divorced parent. She has devoted her entire career to helping families navigate the divorce process and co-parent successfully after divorce.

Role of a Divorce Mediator

As your mediator, it is important to understand that Amber will not make decisions for you. She will instead foster a positive and open environment where you and your divorcing spouse can have productive discussions, solve problems, and come up with solutions that will work for your family. Mediated agreements are usually more satisfying to both parties than a divorce settled in the courts. Litigation can take many months to complete as you are at the mercy of your judge and attorney’s schedules.

If you would like to learn more about the mediation process, contact AMS Mediation at 952-252-1492. Amber would be happy to set up a time for a free 30 minute consultation so that you can determine if her divorce mediation services will meet your needs.
