Reducing The Financial Stress Of DivorceThere are many different things that can be stressful about divorce. One of the most common causes of stress is the financial impact on a family. Proceeding through the court system involves spending money on attorneys, which can add up very quickly. The average cost of a traditional divorce in the United States can be up to $15,000. When you add that to the increased costs of funding two households with the same income level, it can be an overwhelming prospect. However, you can find ways to minimize the financial impact of divorce. Divorce mediation is dramatically less expensive than litigation, reducing the financial and emotional stress of divorce.

Mediation is a highly effective and successful way to navigate the divorce process without having to engage lawyers and the court system. A mediator can help facilitate discussion about all issues you need to resolve including dividing your joint property, creating a parenting plan that outlines how your kids will divide their time and deciding whether or not spousal maintenance is needed. Your mediator can help you set goals, have productive conversation and find common ground. Ultimately, the divorce settlements that are developed in mediation have a better chance of being successful long term as well because the couple arrived at the settlement themselves.

Benefits Of Divorce Mediation

Mediation takes less time and is also far less expensive than litigation. If you partner with a mediation firm like AMS Mediation, you can expect to pay approximately $4000 for the process from start to finish. This includes a mediator fee (by the hour), a filing fee to your county, and a fee for professional drafting. Divorce mediation generally ranges from 20-50% less expensive than litigation. That can really help a family avoid acute financial stress. Because divorce can be resolved via mediation more quickly than in litigation, you can also move forward with your life more quickly.
