Ways To Cope With Sadness And Anxiety During DivorceThe end of your marriage is without a question a significant loss. It is normal to experience sadness, grief and anxiety as you come to terms with the fact that your marriage will not survive, and you look toward your future. Coping with these feelings is one huge challenge of the divorce process. Here are some strategies for ways to manage your feelings of sadness and anxiety during this difficult time:

1. Develop a self-care routine: Finding ways to take care of yourself during the stressful divorce process is very important. Self-care comes in many forms including exercise, meditation, reading, writing, painting, watching a movie, or a simple thing like taking a bubble bath or getting a massage. Whatever you find that helps you relax and reset can help you get through this difficult time.
2. Find your support system: Your support system will be unique to you, and it can include a combination of personal friends, family, professionals and co-workers. You may lean on different individuals for different things. A therapist, divorce coach, pastor, primary care physician may be able to provide professional help, guidance and tangible strategies for coping while a good friend, family member or co-worker can provide companionship and emotional support.
3. Ask for help: It can be difficult but asking for help when you need it can make a huge difference in your ability to find ways to cope with the reality of your divorce. You may need help transporting your kids to or from school, or help packing moving boxes if you are moving out of your family home. Generally, those that love you are looking for ways to help so remember that and go ahead and ask for the help that you need.
4. Connect with professionals when you need it: There are many different professionals you may need to work with during the divorce process. A trained mediator, divorce lawyer, divorce coach, and accountant and/or financial advisor are some of the most common professionals that are hired during a divorce. Do your homework, get personal referrals so that you hire those who you will get along with and can provide the services that you need most.
