What Does A Successful Divorce Look Like?We understand that you may feel like admitting that your marriage is over, and you are headed toward divorce is a failure. Our society reinforces that with messages in movies and on TV that focus on high conflict divorces that must be settled in the courtroom. However, the team at AMS Mediation can help you find a way toward a successful, fair and equitable divorce that can help you find peace and closure. What does a successful divorce look like?

Collaborative: Collaborative may not be a word that you generally associate with divorce, but it can be. The Minnesota courts actually recommend that couples try divorce mediation before litigation in an attempt to settle the terms of the divorce without using the court’s resources. When you use mediation to resolve the terms of your divorce you lay the groundwork for positive interactions even after your divorce is final. This is especially important if you share children. Mediation is focused on collaborative and productive communication and generally reduces the overall conflict, while litigation can increase the conflict.

Fair Outcome: You and your ex understand your finances and children’s needs better than anyone, especially a judge. As a result, mediation can produce a fair outcome and a settlement that has the best possible chance of being successful in the long term.

Future Focused: If you are getting divorced, there is likely a lot of pain associated with your marriage. Mediation allows you to look ahead and focus on your future, rather than on the pain of your past. This is a way that you can begin healing.

Fast: Mediation takes far less time than a court battle to resolve. Once you have made the difficult decision to divorce, you may be ready to come to an agreement more quickly than the court can possibly manage. So, mediation offers you a way to complete the process in a few short weeks and move on with your life. AMS Mediation even offers virtual mediation sessions which can be tailored to fit your schedule.

Family Oriented: Divorce will change your family, but settling the outstanding issues using mediation allows you to focus on managing this transition in a healthy way for your family.
